The company presented the new data in Warsaw on Monday
Mastercard presented its newest statistics on contactless payment cards during a press conference in Warsaw. According to the company's data as much as 78 percent of Mastercard's cashless transactions in the third quarter of this year in Poland were made using contactless technology.
Bartosz Ciołkowski, the General Director of Mastercard Poland, said that the share of contactless transactions is growing rapidly. - At the same time we managed to stop the decline of the average value of a contactless transaction, which means that Poles have been increasingly using their contactless cards for bigger amounts that require PIN code verification - he added. The company calculated that in the 3rd quarter the average contactless transaction amount was 49 zł, while a year ago it was only slightly above 40 zł.
The statistics presented by Mastercard also show that in the course of one year the value of contactless transactions made using cards issued by the company rose by 88 percent, while the number of transactions rose by 49 percent and the number of active contactless cards - by 26 percent.
The quick growth of the share of contactless transactions in the cashless card payment market is also visible in statistics published by the National Bank of Poland. The latest data, regarding the second quarter of this year, suggests that card transactions that did not require inserting the card into a terminal accounted for 66,7 percent of all cashless transactions in that period. This data is based on all cards, so apart from Mastercard, it includes Visa, American Express and Diners transactions.
