Allegro is opening an office in China. It wants to exercise greater oversight over local sellers

As well as opening an office in Shenzhen, Allegro is also setting up a local company

Allegro has announced that it is opening an office in the Chinese city of Shenzhen and establishing a WFOE (wholly foreign-owned enterprise) on the local market. In this way, the Polish e-commerce operator aims to build closer ties with sellers in that market and better ensure compliance with the rules governing its platform.

Marcin Kuśmierz, CEO of Allegro, emphasises that this move is intended to reduce his company's reliance on intermediaries, ensure fair competition, and deliver on its promise of high European standards of safety and consumer protection.

Until now, Allegro has verified international partners and activities to ensure compliance with the requirements for products offered on the platform, primarily from its offices in Warsaw, Poznań and Prague. However, as noted in the press release, operating from a distance of over 8,000 kilometres and across different time zones has its natural limitations. Hence the decision to open a local office.

Allegro cites the opportunity to draw inspiration as an additional benefit of setting up a company in China. A presence in Shenzhen, described as the “global e-commerce incubator”, is intended to help the platform rapidly implement the best logistics and technological innovations and transfer them to its native markets in Central and Eastern Europe. In this way, Allegro aims to strengthen its competitive position against the global giants in the e-commerce market.
