According to unofficial information from cashless.pl, the first, realistic date for making contactless payments with Blik is currently the second quarter of 2021. However, the new product will not be available to all banks offering Blik at once. ING Bank Śląski and possibly mBank will probably be among the first institutions to provide the new service. PKO BP is also to be far in advance.

The reason for the delayed implementation of the contactless Blik is the change of priorities in financial institutions. Last year, it became more important than mobile payments to prepare the system for submitting applications for support from the financial shield of the Polish Development Fund or various tools for remote customer acquisition during pandemic restrictions. Later, the works related to the adaptation of card systems to the PSD II directive came to the fore. Only now can banks pay more attention to the new feature in Blik.
The press office of the Polski Standard Płatności (Blik operator) does not want to confirm or deny the information of cashless.pl at the moment. - Work on enabling contactless payments is ongoing. We do not want to declare a specific date, due to the fact that many entities are involved in the project. We want customers to be able to pay contactless with Blik as soon as possible - we read in the PSP press office's response to my question on this matter.

Let me remind you that contactless payments with Blik are possible thanks to the strategic partnership between PSP and Mastercard (the organization owns patents related to the use of contactless technology in the area of payments). Since last year, Mastercard has been formally a shareholder of PSP - it has one seventh of its shares. It paid about PLN 83 million for them, which allowed to estimate the operator of Blik at almost PLN 600 million.
