
A survey conducted on behalf of the Blik system operator shows that customers who prefer cashless payments daily need cash in emergency situations
The Institute for Market and Social Research (IBRiS) conducted a survey on Poles' attitudes towards cash. The survey was commissioned by Polski Standard Płatności (Polish Payment Standard) – the operator of the Blik system. The most important conclusion from the survey seems to be that Poles are changing their attitude towards cash and becoming very pragmatic. They treat it as a good solution for emergencies, but daily, they prefer to use electronic payment instruments.

An IBRiS survey shows that 61% of consumers use cashless payments daily. This is most evident among people aged 40 or younger, with approximately 75% of respondents in this group indicating this. The share of supporters of cashless payments also increases with income. Among those who declare earnings exceeding PLN 7,000 net per month, 78% prefer to settle their accounts electronically. On the other hand, among those with income below PLN 3,000, supporters of digital payments account for 28%.
On the other hand, 47 per cent of respondents declared that they still need cash mainly in emergency situations. Interestingly, more than one in three respondents (36 per cent) use a smartphone to withdraw money. At the same time, 44 per cent of survey participants feel comfortable withdrawing cash from an ATM without using a card.

Recently, there has been a lot of talk in Poland about access to cash due to the introduction by the operators of the largest ATM networks of restrictions on single withdrawals made with Blik to PLN 200. In this context, a survey conducted by IBRiS shows that respondents most often withdraw amounts between PLN 101 and PLN 300 (35%), between PLN 301 and PLN 500 (19%), and 18% indicated that they withdraw amounts exceeding PLN 800 at a time. A total of 13% of respondents reported having completely given up cash.
"For some people, access to cash remains an important part of their everyday use of payment services. Consumers have different needs and habits, which is why it is so important that they have a choice and can use solutions that are convenient for them. It is equally important that they do not incur additional costs because of this,” said Adam Kokoszkiewicz, Sales Director at PSP.
