The Central Bureau for Combating Cybercrime announced that an organized criminal group had broken up, involved in financial fraud. Among other things, the group had created an extensive network of cryptocurrency exchange offices operating in Poland and other European Union countries, as well as a call centre that contacted victims of fraud, including phishing and the use of Blik codes. Thirteen people were arrested in six provinces.

The police uncovered a financial infrastructure comprising 131 foreign accounts and 196 domestic accounts, as well as 231 wallets holding various cryptocurrencies, including Bitcoin, Ethereum, XRP, and Tron. During the operation, cash worth over PLN 2.6 million was seized. The court ordered preventive measures, including temporary detention, for 10 of the individuals arrested. The case is ongoing, and investigators do not rule out further arrests.

Cryptocurrencies are often used by criminals to hide money obtained through financial fraud. At the same time, one of the most popular methods of stealing money online is persuading victims to invest in cryptocurrencies that are supposed to bring enormous profits. Such campaigns persuading customers to do so are conducted through call centres, which, according to experts, are professionally organized and managed and would not be out of place even in legally operating financial institutions.
