Revolut to restore Polish IBAN numbers

Revolut is already informing its first customers about the possibility of using national account numbers

Readers of cashless.pl report that Revolut is restoring Polish IBAN numbers. The first customers have been informed that they can already change the previously used Lithuanian IBAN to the local Polish one. According to my information, these are just tests of the new service, and Revolut is cooperating with Aion Bank on this.

Customers who are already able and want to switch IBANs should open the Accounts tab in the Revolut app, select the PLN shortcut and follow the displayed instructions. After accepting the terms and conditions, the new account details will appear.

Revolut lost its Polish IBANs in March 2021. That was when its agreement with Danske Bank expired. This meant an increase in transfer costs for customers from most banks in Poland, which treated such operations as cross-border. Those who received salaries from Polish employers to their Revolot accounts suffered the most.

Revolut and Aion Bank, on the other hand, started their cooperation with savings accounts. In November 2021, the British bank with a Lithuanian licence offered Polish customers interest on accounts in euros. The money went to the Belgian branch of Aion Bank and the deposits were protected by the Belgian guarantee fund.

At the time, I wrote that this collaboration between Revolut and Aion could signal further changes in the offer of the British fintech bank, and I was referring to Revolut's service of local accounts in Poland. As you can see, I wasn't wrong.
