The mobile payment option will be available to Mastercard card holders
Bank Handlowy customers can now start using the Android Pay mobile payment system. The company's press office confirmed that the service has been activated and a press release announcing it will be published on Wednesday. To use Android Pay, Citi customers in Poland need to install the app and add their Mastercard card. The card issuer's logo can be found on all of Citi debit cards and about 80 percent of their credit cards.
The fact that Citi Handlowy is woring on implementing Android Pay has been known for a long time. The bank's CEO announced it in April 2017, which you can read about here. Some customers were given access to the service as early as October last year. The official implementation of the app for all Mastercard using customers was moved to early 2018 in order to avoid it coinciding with the holiday season. The company's press office said that the bank is not working on making Android Pay available to Visa users at this time.
Citi is the latest among a few recent banks - and the twelfth in total - to introduce Android Pay. Plus, BGŻ BNP Paribas and Getin have also recently made the service available to their customers. Alior, BZ WBK, Euro Bank, mBank, Nest Bank, Orange Finanse and T-Mobile Usługi Bankowe did it before them. Users of Edenred and Sodexo pre-paid cards can also use Google's mobile payment system. Two more banks are still working on the integration - ING and SGB, the latter with the help of First Data Polcard.
