Polish fintech Blik already has more than 11 million customers

The company also boasts that in Q2 2022 it cleared transactions worth almost PLN 39bn

The president of Polski Standard Płatności (operator of the Blik system), Dariusz Mazurkiewicz, presented Blik's transactional figures achieved in the period April-June 2022. The company's data shows that in the past quarter, users of the system performed 292 million transactions via the system, for a total amount of PLN 38.7 billion. This is an increase of 66 per cent and 61 per cent respectively compared to the same period a year ago.

Traditionally for Blik, the largest share of payments are those made in e-commerce. In Q2 2022, there were more than 167 million of them and they accounted for more than 57 per cent of the total. However, the head of Blik boasts that P2P transfers (to the recipient's phone number) and payments in stationary shops are growing faster and faster, thanks to the availability of contactless technology in cooperation with Mastercard.

As a result, although e-commerce payments are growing rapidly all the time, their share of the total transaction volume is decreasing in favour of the aforementioned services. In Q2, Blik recorded 57.2 million P2P transfers (these accounted for 19.6 per cent of all transactions) and 55.3 million terminal payments (their share was 18.9 per cent). ATM transactions were 12.3 million.

In addition, Mazurkiewicz revealed that the company he heads already has 11.3 million active users. Active, meaning those who make at least one Blik transaction per month - a quarter early the system had 10.5 million active users. More than one million people have also already activated the contactless version of Blik.

During the press conference, the PSP president was asked about plans for foreign expansion. "I think that in the next few weeks we will be able to provide you with very interesting and concrete information on this subject" said Mazurkiewicz. It is worth recalling in this context that already in March in cashless.pl we wrote about the possibility that Blik is in advanced talks to launch services in Romania.
