The number of Google's mobile payment users may grow even faster in the coming quarters
Data acquired from banks suggests that the most significant group of Android Pay users can be found at mBank, where over 72 thousand customers use the service. In reality the number might be even higher - recently the solution has become available to customers of Orange Finanse, mBank's sister project. The brand's representatives did not, however, choose to disclose their September mobile payment statistics.
By the end of the last quarter Alior had 43,5 thousand customers using Android Pay, while its sister project T-Mobile Usługi Bankowe boasts over 17 thousand. Unfortunately, other banks offering Android Pay in Poland - BZ WBK, Euro Bank, Nest and BGŻ BNP Paribas - decided not to disclose the number of customers using Google's payment app in September. In the case of BZ WBK and Euro Bank, however, we can estimate Android Pay popularity using historical data.
In July BZ WBK said that it had 18,6 thousand customers using Android Pay at the end of June. Euro Bank, which started offering the solution to customers using Visa credit cards just several days earlier, reported that around 100 people decided to use the new service.
This means that there were no less than 151 thousand Android Pay users in Poland at the end of September. In reality the number is bound to be higher due to the likely increase in users among BZ WBK and Euro Bank customers, as well as the unknown number of users from Orange Finanse, Nest and BGŻ BNP Paribas. At the end of June the number of customers using Android Pay was just about 75 thousand. I assume the popularity of this payment method will grow even faster in the following quarters as more banks want to introduce the possibility to their offer - including SGB, ING and Getin.
