As reported by one of cashless.pl’s readers, a new feature has appeared in Klarna’s mobile app. Users can buy and activate an eSIM card through it. And indeed, after logging in to the app, I found an option to order an eSIM card that provides mobile internet access in more than 150 countries through 250 telecommunications operators.

According to the information displayed in Klarna’s app, to use the new option, users need to choose their travel destination and the size of the data package. The card can then be activated directly in the Klarna app, which provides detailed instructions to guide users through the process. Package prices start at PLN 6.50. For example, an eSIM for the United Kingdom with a 3 GB package valid for 30 days costs PLN 34, while the same package for travelers in Albania costs PLN 47.50.

The option to buy eSIM cards through financial institutions’ apps is becoming very popular. It has recently been introduced by at least several providers. A few days ago, Walutomat announced such a feature. Earlier, it was also introduced by Erste, Millennium and PKO BP—each of the three banks in cooperation with the fintech Autopay—as well as Revolut. However, as I hear from bankers, this move is more about marketing or customer loyalty than a major business opportunity, because there is not much money to be made from it.
