Polish Telecommunications Company Play Launches Mobile Insurance Marketplace

The Play Insurance app is already available for Android devices. It should also become available in Apple's App Store before the New Year

The Play Ubezpieczenia (Play Insurance) smartphone app is a mobile marketplace that, in its early stages, will let users buy several dozen different insurance policies from several major insurance companies, including Allianz, BNP Paribas Cardif, Compensa, Gothaer, InterRisk, Nationale-Nederlanden, Oney and Uniqa. The products will be divided into six categories: Home and Family, Travel and Sport, Health, Security, Smartphone and Vehicle.

Play says that all products available in its app are described in the simplest and most consumer-friendly manner possible - in several bullet points, with no fine print, no clauses and no footnotes, all available on the phone screen, where the user can read about the coverage of each product.

Products sold through the Play Ubezpieczenia app will include a Fitness assistance policy (1.99 zł/0.47 euro a month), Safe handbag (0.99 zł/0.23 euro a month) or Bicycle assistance (3.99 zł/0.94 euro a month) that offers help when the insured user has a bicycle accident.

The prices start at 0.99 zł (0.23 euro) a month and most products cost less than 10 zł (2.37 euro). All insurance products offered on Play's insurance marketplace will also be available in two coverage and price variants - the Standard and the Premium in which for a higher price, the customer will get additional benefits, such as a larger sum insured or additional coverage.

Play board member Bartosz Dobrzyński says that thanks to the app, the customer will be able to check all the details of their policy at any time, and when they need to make a claim, they can quickly contact the insurer. The app will also notify the user if their policy is expiring soon.

At first the insurance fee will be automatically added to the user's phone bill and payable according to their billing cycle. This means that for now, the Play Ubezpieczenia offer is directed only at Play customers. However, the company's representatives are saying that they are already working on introducing other payment options that are available on the Polish market in order to widen their customer base.
