Pekao: the number of PeoPay users as well as transactions made using the app is growing rapidly

Pekao reports that over the past year, the number of PeoPay users has increased by 18 per cent and transactions ordered this way by more than 40 per cent

Pekao announced that the number of active users of the PeoPay app at the end of 2023 was over 2.8 million. A year earlier, there were 2.38 million - an increase of 18 per cent. At the same time, the number of customers making transactions using the bank's app increased by 17.5 per cent. The number of total transactions increased by more than 40 per cent and transfers alone by 28 per cent.

The bank reported that Blik is also becoming increasingly popular with customers. During the year, the number of payments with this tool increased by nearly 45 per cent. This is clearly visible in the case of payments on terminals (an increase of more than 55 per cent), but P2P payments, i.e. quick transfers via phone, are leading the way. Pekao's customers made 77.5 per cent more such operations in 2023 compared to 2022. The institution adds that these increases are to be explained, among other things, by the addition of new tools to PeoPay, such as the Blik transfer request.

More transactions were also made by Pekao customers using cards added to Google Pay, Apple Pay, Garmin Pay and Fitbit Pay digital wallets. At the end of 2023, there were 48 per cent more of these than at the end of 2022. The number of cards in digital wallets alone increased by more than 24 per cent at the end of last year (compared to 2022). The number of cards added to Garmin Pay increased most strongly: by 39.2 per cent.

Pekao customers logged into the PeoPay app almost 994 million times last year - a 16 per cent increase compared to 2022. On this basis, the bank forecasts that it will exceed one billion logins this year. Last but not least, the number of parking fees bought on the app increased by 128 per cent over the year, while the number of public transport tickets bought on PeoPay increased by nearly 90 per cent over that time.
