New Protocol Allows to Connect any Fiscal Cash Register to any Payment Terminal Available in Poland

The protocol is to be included in a government regulation regarding the technical conditions for fiscal registers

The new protocol will make it easy to integrate any fiscal cash register available on the Polish market with any payment terminal introduced in the country. The integration will be a big advantage to store owners and service providers who accept card payments. For one thing, it will make payments quicker. The cashier will no longer have to manually enter the payment amount into the terminal - it will be automatically entered from the register.

Register and POS integration also minimizes the risk of mistakes that can occur when entering the payment amount into the terminal. What's more, in many cases it will allow business owners to replace more expensive, fully functional terminals with cheaper PIN pads (small devices for accepting cards and entering PIN codes). This is possible because a register equipped with a printer and connected to the internet will be able to communicate with the authorization center, which is normally done using the terminal. This might be especially important in the near future, when the online fiscalization act comes in force, making it necessary for all fiscal cash registers to be connected to the internet.

Unfortunately there hasn't been a universal way of connecting fiscal registers to terminals on the market so far. This meant that device manufacturers have had to prepare up to dozens of solutions for exchanging information between different terminals and different registers. It was necessary when business owners wanted to integrate devices in their stores made by different manufacturers. This problem will now be over.

The Foundation for the Development of Cashless Trade (FROB) informs that the agreement between Poland's major fiscal register producers and major operators and producers of payment terminals to use a single, universal communication protocol in their devices has just been signed. - This will make it possible to connect any fiscal register with any payment terminal without additional integration work - says Robert Łaniewski, FROB president.

The agreement was signed by terminal operators including Elavon, First Data Polcard, IT Card and eService, register producers including Comp and Elzab, as well as terminal manufacturers such as Ingenico and Verifone. Łaniewski claims that the agreement should soon be signed by the Central Office of Measures - the institution that certifies fiscal registers, the Ministry of Development and the Ministry of Finance, which prepared the regulation which states the technical conditions for fiscal devices. The protocol, prepared under the patronage of FROB, will constitute an appendix to the regulation.
